Missing Chicago Women Found Dead

This story haas been in circulation on Black blogs but not really in mainstream news. This Chicago Drug sales rep went missing and has now been found dead.
CNN.com reports CALUMET CITY, Illinois (AP) -- A drug sales representative who disappeared last week was found dead near a forest preserve, not far from where her car was abandoned, her uncle said Thursday

Calumet City Police Chief Russell Larson confirmed only that an unidentified woman's body had been found in the area Thursday morning.
But Nailah Franklin's uncle, Dwayne Johnson, said authorities had told the family the body is that of his 28-year-old niece.
Nailah went missing September 19 after she missed a meeting at work. Her car was discovered in Hammond, Indiana, on Friday night near an abandoned building.
Franklin had filed a police report shortly before her disappearance about getting threatening phone calls from a man she had dated briefly.
Chicago police said Monday they had interviewed someone Franklin once dated but have not named a suspect in her disappearance.

Mother sentenced to life in prison for killing her four children
GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) — A woman who admitted strangling her four young children in an Indiana basement was sentenced Monday to life in prison without parole for each child's death.
Angelica Alvarez, 27, told Elkhart Circuit Judge Terry Shewmaker she had repented for what she had done and accepted responsibility for the Nov. 14 murders of Jennifer Lopez, 8, Gonzalo Lopez, 6, Daniel Valdez, 4, and Jessica Valdez, 2.
She pleaded guilty to four counts of murder on Sept 4 in return for Prosecutor Curtis Hill Jr. agreeing to not seek the death penalty.
Alvarez told the court she took the children to the basement of her home in Elkhart, about 15 miles east of South Bend, and gave them sleeping pills before strangling them with her hands. She said she tried to hang herself with an electrical cord from a lamp. When that didn't work, Alvarez said, she took sleeping pills, leaving a note saying the children would be better off in heaven.
Prosecutors challenged her account in court Monday, saying toxicology reports indicated the children had not been given sleeping pills. They also said a cord mark was on at least one child

Judge gives The Game a conditional discharge on charge he impersonated a police officer

NEW YORK (AP) — A judge let The Game go free Thursday on a charge that he impersonated a police officer.
Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Marc Whiten gave the West Coast rapper, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, a conditional discharge, meaning that if he isn't arrested again within six months, the misdemeanor charge will be dismissed and the case file sealed.
Taylor was arrested Nov. 16, 2006, after he told a cab driver that he was an undercover police officer and directed him to run several red lights, police said.
Taylor, 27, of Glendale, Calif., had hailed the livery cab shortly after appearing on CBS' "Late Show With David Letterman." The cab driver drove about 13 blocks before he was pulled over, police said at the time.
Taylor, who has a large "LA" tattooed on the right side of his face and a teardrop under his left eye, said the cab driver noticed they were being followed and asked who was in the car.
He said he told the driver they were the hip-hop police, and the driver decided on his own to run the red lights.
Jeffrey Lichtman, Taylor's lawyer, said it was unlikely that a cab driver, seeing his client's tattoos, would have thought he was a policeman.
"I've never seen a cop with writing all over his face," Taylor said.
Taylor had rejected offers of a plea deal that would have kept him out of jail in exchange for a guilty plea. He said he was innocent of any crime

Seven guards and a nurse are charged with manslaughter in the death of 14-year-old Martin Anderson at a Florida boot camp.

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) — Chanting demonstrators carried photographs of a dead 14-year-old as jury selection began Monday for the manslaughter trial of seven juvenile boot camp guards and a nurse who are charged in his death.
Martin Lee Anderson died in January 2006 after being taken to a hospital from the now-closed Bay County Juvenile Boot Camp.
He had been sent to the camp for a probation violation and became lethargic during a physical fitness test shortly after arriving. An exercise yard videotape shows seven guards repeatedly hitting the boy with their fists and knees. The camp nurse is accused of watching but doing nothing during most of the 30-minute encounter.
Anderson was black; white and black guards hit him.
By early afternoon, 80 potential jurors had answered initial courtroom questions and 45 had been approved for additional screening; nearly all said they had seen at least part of the video on television. They were not automatically dismissed if they had seen the video; some were dismissed for knowing the guards or Anderson's family.

Anderson's parents declined to answer questions from The Associated Press during a brief break in questioning.
More than 1,400 Bay County residents were summoned for jury selection, being held in a makeshift courtroom in a civic center to accommodate the crowd. That is one of every 90 adults in the Florida Panhandle county.
The large number is needed because the case has gotten so much media attention locally. If an impartial panel can't be found, the trial will be moved to another Florida county.
Defense attorney Waylon Graham said he expected to have a jury pool by Tuesday night.
"You are talking about something that has been on TV constantly and on the radio constantly and the governor has meddled in this thing almost from the beginning, but I don't think it will get moved, said Graham, who represents Charles Helms Jr., the ranking camp guard on duty the day Anderson entered the camp.
Prosecutors have declined to answer questions about the case.
